Life in Pinoso

Pinoso is a working market town rather than a resort, which is exactly why many buyers choose it. The town has a lively centre with shops, banks, a health centre, schools, sports facilities and plenty of bars and restaurants, and it stays busy all year. A large international community has settled in the surrounding countryside, so you will hear English, Dutch and German alongside Spanish and Valencian, and it is easy to find tradespeople and services used to working with foreign owners.

The town is known across Spain for 2 things: its marble, with the cream-coloured Crema Marfil stone quarried from the hills around it, and the Cabezo de la Sal, a salt mountain that has been mined for generations. Wine is the third pillar of the local economy, with Monastrell vineyards covering much of the valley floor.

The countryside and the property market

Around the town, the landscape opens into a patchwork of vineyards, almond and olive groves and small hamlets, with Monte Coto and the surrounding sierras on the horizon. Most of the property is rural: plots of land, country houses and fincas, plus village houses in the town itself.

Water, electricity and access

Like most of inland Alicante, many country properties around Pinoso are not connected to mains water. Homes often use a water deposit (aljibe) filled by tanker, a well, or a connection to the local irrigation network, and many run on solar power with battery storage. Always check what supply a property has, how it is legalised and what it costs to run. Access roads vary from tarmac to dirt tracks, which matters in the rare heavy rains. The beaches of the Costa Blanca, the castles of the Vinalopó valley and the city of Alicante are all within an hour.
